Diversity and Inclusion
The mission of the Oregon Geriatrics Society is to improve the health, independence, and quality of life for older adults in Oregon. We believe that equal protections and treatment are fundamental to aging wellness. OGS stands against systemic racism, discrimination, prejudice, harassment or violence towards anyone – regardless of age, race, cultural background, nationality, ethnic origin, disability, religion, immigration status, gender, gender identity or sexual orientation. As an organization representing professionals in the care of older adults, we stand against any discriminatory policies or actions. We envision and will strive for a nation where everyone is treated equally.
Mission & Goals Statement
The purposes of the Oregon Geriatrics Society (OGS) are exclusively those allowed for organizations defined under 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Oregon Geriatrics Society is a state organization that is informally affiliated with the American Geriatrics Society, but it is not a branch or division of, or otherwise legally related to the American Geriatrics Society. Within these limits, the purposes of the Oregon Geriatrics Society include the following:
Empowering health care professionals to enhance care for older adults. To promote and maintain high standards of health care for the older adult and to advance the quality of episodic and long-term institutional and non-institutional care.
To assist in the education of health care professional students and health care professionals in caring for the older adult.
To foster professional and public awareness concerning issues in geriatric medicine.
To encourage and promote research in the broad fields of geriatrics and gerontology.
To serve as a forum for discussion of issues pertaining to geriatric medicine by concerned physicians and health professionals.
To act as a resource to professional and lay organizations, government agencies, and community programs in the areas of geriatric health care.
To foster the above objectives in cooperation with the American Geriatrics Society and to coordinate activities with other professional societies and interested groups regarding issues in geriatrics.
The Oregon Geriatrics Society is a nonprofit society, and state affiliate of the American Geriatrics Society, that works to improve the health, independence, and quality of life of older adults. Our members include physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, and other health care professionals in geriatrics. We provide leadership to health care professionals, policymakers, and the public by implementing and advocating for programs in patient care, research, professional and public education, and public policy.
